    i started to do mine, i felt the screwdrivers were probably not great for this task, in that moment i thought my chair that i need daily need specials casters so i wasnt willing to risk anything . instead i started using a door panel puller to wedge on one side for additional surface spread on the force and tried using 2 brake adjustment like tools to pry- i stopped as i think i just want new bigger wheels on my chair and popped wheel off discovering i can use standard wheels so im getting 3 inch wheels instead

    Same as other comments, wanted to pop the casters apart to get the hair off instead of growing old trying to pick it out, but was worried about how much force I was having to use. Your vid gave me the confidence to really put some stank on it and sure enough, pop they did. No damage either. Hair removed, and lubricated with some graphite paste, and reassembled. I also used a blade to scrape the wheel surfaces clean, to get rid of the old ball-mouse "roller rumble". Worked great, helped me keep this old chair in service a bit longer.

      One note, I feel like some kind of spreader tool would work a lot better, like the sort used for automotive brake calipers. Cant find any thatd fit tho

    This was a great starting point for me. All 5 wheels were seized with crud on a used chair I picked up yesterday. Advice for others: -Wear goggles, and anticipate some bits might go flying, at least on your first wheel. -Do this in a space where you can find parts that might suddenly ping off. -Instead of two screwdrivers, I found using two hammers gave more control and leverage (get the tips of the claws as close to the axles as you can, then press the tops of the hammers into each other). -If you're opting for lubrication, I recommend a conservative drop of *3-in-1 silicone oil* wherever plastic/acrylic/nylon meets metal (been using it for years on closet door runners, arcade joystick parts, etc.). Turns out mine has a high-tensile spring perpendicular to the wheel axle, putting pressure on a plastic cartridge with two holes in it, one of which the axle slides through. So as soon as I popped the axle out of place, the cartridge and spring fired out and pinged 4 times off various surfaces in my workroom, and I eventually found the parts with a high-powered torch. imgur.com/a/60WXFxt

    I've been using a cigarette lighter to burn all the stuck air. Usually outside, cause of the burnt smell. It's not the best solution, but so far no problems, I do it in several passes not to melt the plastic, but one day I'll have to try this..inevitably.

    • @deea7063
      @deea7063 4 месяца назад

      Haha, I've done that before. A little toxic as the plastic inevitably burns/melts some. Just finished popping and cleaning casters in about 15 mins!

    I couldn't get my wheels apart without busting the into pieces 😢 I actually still didn't get the wells apart afterwards either... think it would be worth it to drill a small hole in the center of the wheel and punch it out?
